I think you hit something. A lot of weird art these days focuses on weird trauma, and I feel like Heartstopper is too focused on weird fun. We’ve needed it for so long and I’m glad we’ve finally gathered together as a collective of young actors and created this amazing story that needs to be told. I mean it’s obviously pretty tough having your first kiss scene. But, what’s so lovely about this is getting to do it with Will and actually have that relationship before season 1, that really good friendship, and get through it together. We had an intimacy coordinator and he really helped guide the way we kiss as well as boundaries and consent. It’s easy to do anything in Heartstopper, because the team is so knowledgeable. They marked everything already. It’s the nice little family we have that puts safety and the cast first.

For Tao and Elle, it was like budding love that had been simmering for a while. Everyone has their teeth pulled out – why couldn’t they have met earlier? We’ve all worked really, really hard so I just pray that it pays off. What was it like filming with all the amazing people like Joe Locke, Kit Connor, and Olivia Colman? Of course, there is much more. Everyone is excellent, and we’ve been acting together for over a year. It’s great to be back for a second season and see how much everyone has grown. I never thought I’d have a Netflix series where I could star as the real me and I did. It was the best thing ever, to have that and be able to have it with a great cast. When I joined the program, I knew it would have an impact on my community, but I didn’t expect it to have an impact on the world. I think we all had the same idea when we got on the show: just come together and create a positive, fun and happy show, and that’s what we did. . We’ve had such a great response since then. So that just speaks volumes. I think I’m quite young, too; I am in my teens. To play a character so young, it’s great because I get to relive my high school experience and my high school experience definitely wasn’t like this.
